KHS sophomores in US History recently delved into the rich history of our own Silver Valley! Their short unit focused on the early mining days and the incredible transformations our community has seen over time.
To bring this history to life, students had the invaluable opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from community members Bill Delbridge, Dan Capparelli, Mike Delbridge, and Bob Delbridge. These speakers shared their personal stories related to the tragic Sunshine Mine Fire of 1972, offering a powerful and moving connection to a pivotal moment in our local history.
Extending their learning beyond the classroom, seventeen students, accompanied by Mrs. Yrjana, attended the annual memorial ceremony on May 2nd. Despite a busy day with athletics and Senior Projects, their presence demonstrated a strong desire to honor and remember this significant event.
This experience underscores our commitment to helping students connect with their community and understand the unique history that shapes it. Hearing personal narratives and participating in the memorial provided a profound sense of community and connection, fostering a deeper appreciation for our shared past.
