alumni Spotlight Ben Little Avista Utilities I graduated from Kellogg in 1992 when logging and mining was in a recession. There was a lot of uncertainty about what direction or path I should take. I always knew that the trades is where I wanted to be. I am currently the Operations Manager at Avista Utilities in the Silver Valley. I started my journey doing different labor jobs until I found what I really wanted to do for my career, a Journeyman Lineman. I started in 1998 and worked as a Lineman in different areas of the company until 2014 when I took the Foreman position and worked until 2022 in that role. As I continued my path, it was apparent that I could expand on my skills and was inspired to learn and grow my leadership abilities and I took the job as Manager back in the Silver Valley knowing it was home. You never know what path you will take, and it can be overwhelming when you overanalyze it. The only thing I knew was that the Silver Valley was always going to be home. Sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves to succeed and have a plan, when all we really need to do is start somewhere and the rest will follow. I have always admired those who have a plan and follow it. Some of you know your passion before you leave high school and follow your dreams, that is extraordinary and so exciting to see. Always listen to your teachers and take their advice; they really care and lookout for your best interest. My advice would be to use all your resources around you, and if you don’t have a formal plan is to start with something that will help you grow and enjoy the ride! Take opportunities as they step in front of you and always give 100%. You will be noticed and you will shine.
A safe school starts with a healthy school. 🏫✨

The Legacy of Marine Corps JROTC at Kellogg High School

Did you know that Kellogg High School hosts one of the only Marine Corps JROTC programs in Idaho?

Since 1971, this program has been a cornerstone of our community, built on leadership, service, and a 50/50 funding partnership between the U.S. Marine Corps and our local supplemental levy.

Watch the video below to learn about the history of the program, the cadets' impact on our community, and the facts regarding its funding structure as we approach the May 19th election.

alumni Spotlight Jenny Ferreira Principal, Canyon Elementary For Jennifer Ferreira, walking the halls of Canyon Elementary isn't just a professional duty—it’s a walk down memory lane. A 1997 graduate of Kellogg High School, Jennifer has spent her entire 20-year career in education serving the students of the Kellogg School District. Today, she serves as the Principal at Canyon Elementary and the Vice Principal at Pinehurst Elementary. Jennifer’s connection to Canyon runs deep; it was her own elementary school as a child. She carries with her the memories of the enriching activities and lifelong friendships formed there, which now fuel her passion for leading the school into the future. Looking back at her time at KHS, Jennifer credits a lineup of "legendary" educators for preparing her for life after graduation. Whether it was the sleep study with Dr. Haller, the Kennedy Assassination Trial with Mr. Wood, math with Mills and Semko, or Mrs. Boyd’s poetry lessons, the impact of high-quality teaching left a lasting impression on her. To current KSD students, Jennifer offers a roadmap for success: “Dream big. Make a 10-year goal for yourself. Fill it in with a 5-year gap goal and constantly ask yourself: Is what I’m doing right now going to get me closer to where I want to be?” She encourages students not to leave their lives up to chance, but to advocate for themselves and seize every opportunity presented to them. Jennifer believes that the strength of the district lies in its partnership with the people it serves. “Our schools are the heartbeat of our community,” she says. “The best gift you can give to the youth of a community is to value and support the education system within that community.” When she isn't busy leading two of our elementary programs, Jennifer enjoys gardening, reading, traveling, and camping with her family. We are honored to have an alum like Jennifer Ferreira, who understands firsthand that when a community supports its schools, students prosper.

Did you know that the State of Idaho only funds half-day kindergarten? At Kellogg School District, we believe our youngest learners deserve more. That’s why we use local levy dollars to bridge the gap and provide Full-Day Kindergarten at no extra cost to our families.

Why Full-Day Kindergarten Matters:
Academic Success: Better reading and math scores that last through 3rd grade.
Social Growth: More time for cooperative play, teamwork, and building confidence.
Family Support: Relief for working parents and a smoother transition to school life.

We want to welcome our newest littlest learners! Join us for our upcoming Kindergarten Roundup events:

📍 Canyon Elementary: Friday, May 8th
📍 Pinehurst Elementary: Friday, May 15th

Local Schools. Local Decision. Vote on May 19th!

As we head toward May 19th, we want to make sure every voter understands how the District is working to keep your taxes low. Thanks to Idaho’s School Facility Funding Law, KSD has a powerful tool to reduce the local burden.

The Facts:
Bonds Paid Off: We used this funding to pay off our existing bond in December 2025. That tax is no longer being collected, leading to the lower rates you see today.
Paying Down the Levy: If the Replacement Levy is renewed on May 19, the district will use these state funds to "pay down" the amount collected from you.
The Result: You get the full benefits of the $3.5M levy for our schools, but the state picks up a portion of the tab, decreasing the actual amount you pay out of pocket.

We are committed to using every available resource to support our students while respecting our taxpayers.
Local Schools. Local Decision. Vote on May 19th!
